With Internet experience dating back to 1995 when he joined the staff of Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive (WPNI),
Tim Ruder has been on the front line developing, managing and growing interactive business lines. His efforts were
instrumental to the successful launch, growth and dominant market position achieved by WPNI properties
(washingtonpost.com, Slate, Newsweek.com, BudgetTravel.com and Sprig) in local, national and international markets.
Tim's background includes business planning and development, product development and management,
market research, consumer advertising (keyword, interactive, traditional and direct), business-to-business marketing,
communications and events marketing. He has worked with mobile, rss, e-mail, social networking, news and
lifestyle web sites, and has been part of strategic investment teams.
An acknowledged leader in the industry, Tim started with The Washington Post Company in 1989 and made
the move to the online division in 1995. In that time, Tim served in various marketing, sales, business
development and operational roles. Immediately prior to his position as Vice President, Marketing,
Tim was the local vice president, responsible for the company's regional market strategy, initiatives
and operations. Under his leadership, washingtonpost.com achieved the highest reach of any local site in
its market and claimed multiple industry awards recognizing excellence. In addition, his work with the
LA Times doubled the audience to latimes.com in 2008. Tim has also consulted with businesses adapting to
the changing media landscape, supporting the development of new competencies in search engine marketing,
interactive advertising and helping companies steeped in traditional media create vibrant interactive
businesses around their core strengths.
Tim has a BA from Purdue University and an MBA from George Mason University.
