Paul Brewer, PhD
Chief Economist
Paul Brewer, Chief Economist for Perfect Market, is an economist and innovator specializing in analyzing the competitive dynamics of new kinds of markets, especially those synthesizing new trading rules and optimization processes. Paul taught economics for 10 years at Georgia State University and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) before becoming a private consultant in 2004. His course in Experimental Economics and E-Commerce was a runner-up for a teaching award at HKUST. As a researcher, Paul focused on cutting edge auction prototypes for specialized applications. Paul's blend of practical research, economic theory, and software development first took form in the early 1990s as a graduate student at the California Institute of Technology's Experimental Economic and Political Science Laboratory. He pioneered an important trading lab data visualization package as a summer project, the first lab tool to incorporate real time bidding data with graphics, animation and sound. Paul was an early advocate of Linux, and after earning his doctorate from Caltech in 1995, a lead architect of Caltech's first web-based laboratory trading software, called Marketscape. Paul continues this pattern of innovation today through economic analysis and processes developed for Perfect Market.
